Software IXIA sets up development centre in Kolkata Our Bureau
Kolkata , Oct. 30 IXIA of Calabasas, California, has set up a presence in Kolkata to support its expanding global software development activities. The provider of IP network testing solutions, which clocked revenues of $157 million in the last 12 months, has set up a wholly-owned subsidiary, CalaKol Development Pvt Ltd here. The company hopes to treble its headcount in India from 67 at present within the next 2-3 years, according to Mr Errol Ginsberg, President and CEO of IXIA. Speaking to newspersons here, Mr Ginsberg said the company has development centres in Romania and California as well. It is a supplier of hardware and software to, among others, companies in the IP network and telephony equipment space. Its clients include Cisco, Hewlett-Packard, Verizon, Texas Instruments, Microsoft, Ford Motor Company, Lockheed Martin and Boeing. Mr Ginsberg said while software presently accounted for 15-19 per cent of the company's gross revenues, it was likely to go up to 25-30 per cent within the next 2-3 years. The Indian operations would contribute substantially to the growing share of software in the overall revenues in the years ahead. According to him, Kolkata was chosen for IXIA's software development centre on account of its cost advantage compared with other cities such as Bangalore and Hyderabad and for the relatively low attrition rates. Indian clients included Reliance and BSNL. Over time, efforts would be made to rope in as clients more Indian companies operating in the IT network and communications space.
