Bangalore , Oct. 30

CITY officials are ensuring security in the face of bomb blasts at New Delhi. After a high level meeting at the State capital, the Karnataka Chief Minister, Mr N. Dharam Singh, issued a security alert across the State on Sunday.

Extra vigilance must be taken in the Bangalore city, which is on the global map for its strides in IT and BT sector, he said.

The Union Home Minister, Mr Shivraj Patil, had instructed the State Government to be extra careful following the bomb blasts in New Delhi on Saturday.

Festival celebrations will be monitored in Mysore, Hubli, Dharwad and Belgaum. The police will step up patrolling in busy and sensitive localities and top officials will monitor the situation constantly, said the Chief Minister.

Mr Ajaykumar Singh, City Police Commissioner, said sniffer dog squads have been put into service. The department has taken all necessary precautionary security measures in the city particularly in the thickly populated areas, he added. "We have even informed the bomb detection squads to be ready to face any emergency," he said.

The Chief Secretary, Mr B.K. Das, and the Director General of Police, Mr B.S. Sial, took part in the meeting.
