Food adulteration

This is with reference to the editorial, "End food adulteration" (Business Line, October 28).

It is a wake up call to government authorities concerned to implement the rules and punish those harming the health of the innocent and unaware. Since the majority of our population is poor and depends on cheap food, it is this that is most affected by adulterated food.

In 1997, cases of dropsy were reported in North India due to the consumption of adulterated edible oils. It is hoped that the Government will take cognisance of the valid points raised in the editorial and introduce in the winter session of Parliament the long overdue integrated food law.
