Poor service

This is with reference to the article "Out of their depth" (Business Line, October 28): Returning to India after many years, I find that `private' does not necessarily mean efficient.

It only means aping the profit-oriented corporate culture of MNCs, but without any accountability to customers. Some of the worst performers are in the cell phone and Internet service providers. With most companies out-sourcing such operations as order booking, installation, bill collection and customer support, at no point does the customer get to interact with a company's executives. Any complaint to the customer support gets a standard "will do the needful" reply. Of course, there are as always honourable exceptions. Now, in addition to government departments, we have to suffer private companies.
