Etihad Airways to begin Abu Dhabi-Toronto service

Vimala Vasan

"The new route will provide choice and flexibility when travelling to Europe and North America.''

Abu Dhabi , Oct. 31

ETIHAD Airways, the Abu Dhabi-owned UAE carrier, will be launching its new route from Abu Dhabi to Toronto, via Brussels.

The official Emirates News Agency, WAM, quoted Dr Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saif Al Nahyan, Chairman of Etihad Airways and Abu Dhabi Civil Aviation Department, as saying: "Our first trans-Atlantic flight to Toronto after only two years of operations heralds further growth for Etihad Airways and will be a launch pad for our services to the US in summer 2006. The new route will provide choice and flexibility when travelling to Europe and North America, an essential route for trade and tourism.''

The airways will provide three weekly flights to Canada and Belgium further enforcing its growth plans and linking the UAE with major international destinations.

To further exploit the opportunities of this new destination, Etihad Airways has entered into its first code-share agreement with SN Brussels Airlines — which enables the airline's guests to fly to a greater number of important European cities such as Rome, Lyon, Strasbourg, Geneva, Birmingham, Manchester, Newcastle, Oslo, Berlin, Hamburg and Vienna, among other important European destinations.

It will provide one of the shortest connecting routes between West Asia and North America.
