Strategy Odyssey bookstore woos customers with more options Our Bureau
Chennai , Oct. 31 ODYSSEY India, a bookstore, has inaugurated its relocated store in Adyar. Having just opened an outlet in Anna Nagar, the new store in Adyar is 18,000 sq ft large spread over three floors. The earlier store in this area was 6,500 sq ft in size. Speaking to the press, Mr T. Ashwin, Managing Director, Odyssey, said that though the store has expanded in terms of offering options to the customers, books would remain the primary focus. The store consists of a gift and children's section in the basement, books, jewellery and perfumes in the ground floor, and cards, stationery and music in the mezzanine floor. Apart from this, the store has an art section, and a café that will be operational in a couple of months. Speaking about the inclusion of many segments, Mr Ashwin said that positioning has become increasingly difficult, with most retail outlets offering customers many options. As a result, Odyssey has followed suit, and the new store has expanded its lifestyle section, which includes perfumes, jewellery and watches. He said that books still provide a majority of the revenues, around 35 per cent on an average, while the other segments all provide around 15 to 20 per cent each.
