German foodtech fair evokes Indian interest

Mumbai , Nov. 2

NEWER food technologies and innovative products are likely to be on display at the fourth `Anuga Foodtech 2006' scheduled to be held in the premier German city of Cologne during April 4-7 next year.

The world's biggest food technology trade fair will cover critical areas such as process technology; packaging technology (including filling); food safety, quality management, bio-engineering and environment technology; as well as automation and infotech services and process materials and ingredients.

Describing it as the world's only trade fair with whose cross-sector concept covers all aspects of processing, packaging, hygiene, storage and distribution as they relate to food production, Mr Wolfgang Kranz, Executive Vice-President of KoelnMesse GmbH, the event organisers, said the fair would be spread over an area of one lakh sq.m.

More than 1,200 exhibitors will showcase their products and technologies to visitors expected to number over 40,000 from across the world.

Given India's large production base for diverse food products and burgeoning demand for food driven mainly by rising incomes and population growth, it is clear KoelnMesse perceives India as a major market for food processing technology. Several exhibitors and visitors from the country have shown interest in participating, the organisers claimed.

Diverse food products for which technologies would be available include meat, fish and poultry; bakery and pasta; beverages; dairy products; basic foods; fruits, fine foods and convenience; spices; as also coffee, tea and tobacco.

In January 2006, KoelnMesse's ISM fair (International Sweets and Biscuits fair) would be joined by another fair — ProSweets — the international supplier fair for the confectionary industry.

"With ISM and ProSweets, we would cover the entire value chain of the confectionary industry at a single trade fair location to provide end-to-end solutions," Mr Kranz said.

In 2006, Cidex, the Indian joint venture company would be hosting three major events. In addition to `World of Food' fair in Mumbai during November 1-3, Cidex will organise International Foodtech India, Sweet and Snack Factory and Dairy Universe, all during November 23-25in Mumbai.
