Singapore Airlines Cargo to increase services to India

Our Bureau

Kolkata , Nov. 3

SINGAPORE Airlines Cargo, the wholly-owned subsidiary of Singapore Airlines, is stepping up its services to key destinations in India and the US.

This follows delivery of an additional "Mega Ark", a Boeing 747-400 freighter, in the carrier's fleet, bringing the total number of this type of freighter in the fleet to 15.

The carrier has launched twice weekly service from Singapore to New Delhi, Copenhagen and Chicago from October 29. The routings for return services, however, are Chicago-Copenhagen-Bangalore-Singapore and Chicago-Copenhagen-New Delhi-Singapore.

As a result, the overall frequency between Singapore and Chicago increases to seven times a week from five times previously.

The freighter frequency between Singapore and India is now 10 times in the west-bound direction, with all services continuing directly to Europe (Amsterdam, Brussels and Copenhagen) and six times to the US (New York and Chicago).

The east-bound freighter services from Europe (Amsterdam and Brussels) and the US (Los Angeles, New York, Dallas and Chicago) to Singapore via India (Mumbai, New Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai and Bangalore) will be nine times a week.

Singapore Airlines Cargo is due to take delivery of another "Mega Ark" in early 2006. Additional three 747-400 freighters, to be converted from passenger carriers, are due for delivery between 2007 and 2009, it is learnt.
