World Usability Day to make IT easy

Our Bureau

Bangalore , Nov. 3

THE first-ever World Usability Day was celebrated in over 30 countries and 115 locations across the globe on Thursday.

In India, the event is being held in three cities - Bangalore, Chennai and Hyderabad. Wipro's E-enabling team held a series of knowledge-sharing sessions with the underlying theme — "Make it Easy!"

Every product, application and service needs to be designed around its usability and user-centred design needs to be integrated in all projects, says Mr Sanjiv K.R., Vice-President, E-biz and data warehousing solutions, Wipro Technologies.

The company has a usability and design group that offers portal and content management services. These help revamp Web sites to make them more appealing to the common net user.

"Almost 70-75 per cent of Web sites return to the drawing board. Web portal designers need to take care of initial design aspects," said Ms Sujata Visweswara, General Manager & Practice Head - Portals and Content Management. "The design of a Web site also needs to be made specific to the industry and the targeted audience," she added.
