Maruti domestic sales up

NEW DELHI: Maruti Udyog Ltd on Thursday reported 14.7 per cent increase in sales during October at 50,308 vehicles in the domestic market against 43,650 units during the same period last year.

Overall sales, however, increased by 4.3 per cent to 51,543 units, as exports fell by 77 per cent to 1,235 units.

MUL sold 50,052 units of passenger cars in the domestic market during the month with its popular model `Alto' accounting for 15,558 units.

The company said its domestic sales in the A2 segment (which includes Alto, Zen, WagonR, and Swift) touched a record 31,531 units, up 35.1 per cent from October 2004.

Sales in the A3 segment (Baleno and Esteem) grew by 18.7 per cent during the month compared to sales in October 2004, it said.
