WIGAN & Leigh College (WLC), India, a part of Wigan & Leigh, UK, has announced a tie-up with the British Council to administer the entrance tests for WLC at various centres across the country.

At a press conference here on Thursday, Mr Trevor Ashton, Director-International operations, WLC, UK, said that in addition to the tie-up with the British Council, WLC India and WLC UK had signed an agreement to open 20 campuses in West Asia and Africa. WLC India would offer courses in business management and fashion technology taught by Indian, African and British teachers.

Mr Jim Crewdson, Principal, WLC, UK, said, "In recognition of WLC India's successful completion of 10 years, during which it has imparted high quality education and vocational training to its 5,000 students, WLC UK has decided to give WLC India the rights to open, manage and run the WLC campuses in Middle East and Africa."

WLC India is one of many worldwide operations of WLC, UK. So far, the admission tests for prospective students entering WLC were conducted directly by the college from the UK.This move has been taken to increase transparency in the examination system and to also enable students throughout the country take these examinations through the British Council, as it has a wider presence than the centres of WLC India. Currently, WLC India has around 5,000 students in the country studying towards a diploma or an advanced diploma from the WLC, UK.
