Numaligarh Refinery plans to boost Euro-III fuel output

Our Bureau

Kolkata , Nov. 4

NUMALIGARH Refinery Ltd (NRL), a BPCL subsidiary, plans to enhance its Euro-III fuel production capacity by up to 50 per cent. The company refines over 2.3 million tonne crude against a capacity of three million tonne. Roughly 30 per cent of the total production is Euro-III category.

According to BPCL sources, the company recently appointed Engineers India Ltd to carry out a feasibility study for enhancing its Euro-III fuel production capacity by 30 per cent to 50 per cent. Suffering from a lack of crude oil availability leading to lower utilisation of the capacity, the Assam-based company is looking for higher value addition and higher realisation to enhance its profitability. Towards this end, the company has proposed setting up a product pipeline from Numaligarh in Assam to Siliguri in the northern part of West Bengal. Also on the cards is the setting up of a marketing terminal at Siliguri to service the product pipeline.

Talking about capacity utilisation issue, the sources said while efforts were on to improve supplies, there was no ready solution to meet the crude crisis issue due to low production in Assam region coupled with high transportation cost.
