Fan industry seeks 100 acres of land at Kukatpally for industrial cluster

The Fan Manufacturers Association through a representation wanted the State Government to allot 500 sq yards in the HUDA truck parking area, Kukatpally.

Hyderabad , Nov. 4

THE traditional fan and fan component manufacturers, numbering about 300 small units and located in the Balanagar industrial area, want a change to brighten up their prospects in an increasingly tough market place.

They have approached the State Government with a plea to get 100 acres of land anywhere on the outskirts of the City. The objective is to set up a `Fan Industrial Estate'.

This would enable the existing small-scale industrial units to shift and run their operations from a single location with better infrastructure, which in turn offers economies of scale.

The Fan Industrial Estate would also have a favourable impact on international buyers.

It could also help us face competition from fan clusters in China.

The present congested, ageing infrastructure in Balanagar was difficult to drastically improve, the Fan Manufacturers Association argued.

The Association through a representation also wanted the State Government to allot 500 sq. yards in the HUDA truck parking area, Kukatpally.

A majority of units are located in the vicinity. It would be used to set up a Common Facility Centre (CFC).

The financial help for the CFC would be obtained from the Government of India.

It would house the Associations, Sub-Contract Exchange and a Business Information Centre, the Working President, Mr Ashok Barmecha, and the Executive Member, Mr Rakesh Garg, said in the representation.

The fan units, which have a turnover of Rs 200 crore, with the help of the Small Industries Service Institute (SISI) and the National Institute for Small Industries extension and Training (NISIET) have formed into a cluster.

Encouraged by the positive changes that the cluster development initiatives have so far made, the Fan Association has taken up the long-term development plan and helping the member units, they said.

The Fan cluster is providing direct and indirect employment to over two lakh persons.
