Vignyan Utsav from today at Kochi

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Vignyan Utsav, the five-day exhibition and interactive sessions on `Natural and manmade disasters and their judicious management' will get under way in Kochi from Saturday.

Scientific Awareness Forum (SAFE), a Kochi-based NGO, the Corporation of Kochi and Rotary Club of Cochin North are co-sponsors.

The sessions will feature eminent scientists and experts from scientific and service organisations, said Dr C.K. Rajan, President, SAFE. The Minister for Sports, Mr Dominic Presentation, will inaugurate the proceedings. The Mayor of Cochin will preside over. Competitions on the theme have been organised for school and college students.

Among those taking part are renowned geo-physicist Dr M. Baba; Mr K.M. Amanulla of the National Safety Council; Dr T. Murali of NIMHANS, Bangalore; Dr P.V. Joseph, eminent meteorologist; and Dr K.T. Damodaran, Director, School of Marine Sciences, Cochin University of Science and Technology.

The valedictory function will feature Dr G. Madhavan Nair, Chairman, Indian Space Research Organisation, and Brigadier O.A. James, Deputy Director-General, National Cadet Corps.
