VeriSign to digitally certify Infineon chips

Our Bureau

During chip manufacturing and production, Infineon will create and digitally sign the TPM to confirm its authenticity and integrity.

Bangalore , Nov. 4

INFINEON and the US-based VeriSign will now jointly work to improve computer security with creation and use of digital certificates. VeriSign will now certify the German chip manufacturer's Trusted Platform Module Certification Authority. All computing systems powered by Infineon's TPM solution will now be secure.

"The use of digital certificates has become an underpinning of digital interactions across today's global, digital networks. People take for granted how important they are to encrypting and protecting sensitive data," said Mr Nicolas Popp, Vice-President, Authentication Services, VeriSign.

"Through our work with Infineon, which will see VeriSign certificates embedded in the very heart of a computing environment, we can maximise the legitimacy of operating platforms."

During chip manufacturing and production, Infineon will create and digitally sign the TPM to confirm its authenticity and integrity. VeriSign will then cross-sign it with its own Trusted Computing Root Certification Authority.

Infineon will also embed the VeriSign Class 3 Primary CA certificate into TPM. Hence, customers using Infineon TPM-enabled systems can maximise the legitimacy of their connection to, and data received from, another computing platform.

Mr Jim Ward, President of the Trusted Computing Group said, "The secure implementation of the root of trust will be important to future network services."
