Deepak Spinners, Alwar Power get UN's CDM registration

Our Bureau

New Delhi , Nov. 4

WITH projects of Deepak Spinners Ltd (DSL) and Alwar Power Company Ltd (APCL) getting registered as clean development mechanism (CDM) activities, seven Indian projects have made it to the registered list of UN panel on climate change.

Registration is the formal acceptance by the executive board of a validated project as a CDM activity.

It is the prerequisite for the verification, certification and issuance of certified emission reductions (CERS) or carbon credits related to that project activity.

Each tonne of carbon dioxide reduction, when verified by the United Nations Framework for Climate Change Convention (UNFCCC), stands for one certified emission reduction (CER) and can be traded globally.

DSL's biomass power project at Pagara is expected to reduce 17,424 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent of emissions per year.

This means, when verified, the project could potentially generate 17,424 CERs every year.

DSL manufactures synthetic-blended yarn, made of polyester, viscose and acrylic.

For its electricity requirements, the company would use biomass like soya, bagasse, gram and wheat instead of using generators that consume diesel.

APCL's proposed 7.5-MW mustard crop residue based power project is expected to reduce emissions of 40,313 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent per annum.
