Industry Associations To unite to deal with traders' problems Our Bureau
Mangalore , Nov. 6 THE Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FKCCI) in association with other chambers of commerce and industry in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Goa will form a Confederation of Southern Regional Chambers of Commerce and Industry to fight the problems of the trading community at the Central level. Addressing the representatives of chambers of commerce and industry from the southern States at an interactive meeting organised by the Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) in Mangalore on Saturday, Mr S. Babu, FKCCI President, said that the confederation would be a platform for the trade and industries in the southern States to fight for their problems at the Central level. He expressed unhappiness over the attitude of the Union Ministers towards the trade bodies from south India. "Unity among trade bodies from southern India is essential in such a situation," he said. "We will try to open an office for the confederation in New Delhi. A nodal officer will also be appointed there to fight the problems of south Indian traders," Mr Babu said. The confederation will also fight on issues related to fringe benefit tax (FBT). Even a legitimate expense is being taxed under the FBT, he said. FKCCI and other trade associations are also planning to move the court on FBT, he added.
