THE President, Mr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, has said that making the country free of hearing and speech defects should become our national mission.

Inaugurating the third Cochlear Implant Group of India Conference, he said the ear problem of children could be corrected if diagnosed early. He said the programme should aim at screening all the children. "I would suggest that societal organisations could launch a hearing and speech for kids programme on the lines of sight for kids programme launched by the Government of Andhra Pradesh," Mr Kalam added.
