Pune to have flights to Dubai

Our Bureau

Pune , Nov. 7

IT'S official! Puneiites will, finally, get to fly out of the country directly from their home base, without having to travel to Mumbai.

Air India on Monday said it is planning to introduce a new flight on the Mumbai-Pune-Dubai-Pune-Mumbai route. Effective from December 12, the flight will be operated with its Airbus 310 aircraft thrice a week on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays.

The city's airport, currently under the jurisdiction of the Air Force, is now undergoing infrastructure upgradation to make way for the extra traffic that will result from commencement of international flights.

Indications of the imminent change has been visible for some months now with the Air Force giving the go-ahead for extended hours for flights to take off and land at the airport. Pilot flights carrying consignments of fruits, flowers and vegetables also took off for Dubai a few months ago, clearing the way for the eventual commencement of passenger flights.
