Railways 7 consortia submit EoI for Hyderabad metro project Our Bureau
Hyderabad , Nov. 7 SEVEN consortia have submitted expression of interest (EoI) for the Rs 6,366-crore Hyderabad metro rail project that covers three dense city corridors. Essar Constructions, inclusive of its partners SREI, SembCorp and STE, Singapore and Singapore MRT; Magna Allmore (Malaysia), Siemens AG (Germany), ETA (Dubai) and NCC; Reliance Energy and Bombardier (Canada); Metrail (Switzerland) with strategic partners; GVK-Alstom with partners; Navbharat and others and IVRCL-Hitachi-BHEL combine are among those who have filed for EoI. According to the Secretary for Municipal Administration and Urban Development, Mr S.P. Singh, the business model of the project and the rapid pace of the road widening that is being undertaken in Hyderabad has impressed the prospective foreign and Indian investors. This will ensure a clear right of way for the MRT system. Expressing their happiness over the encouraging response to the global tender process, the Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajashekhara Reddy, asked the officials to hasten the selection process. The MRT project has been conceived to provide hassle-free city commuting, decongest the traffic and pitch the city as an ideal destination for investment. The MRT project is being taken up under the public-private partnership mode. This build, own and operate (BOT) model project, said to be first such initiative in the country, seeks to cover three of the busiest traffic corridors of Hyderabad in about 60 km.
