New Delhi , Nov. 7 THE Government will be setting up regulators for the transport , mining and petroleum sectors soon. This was stated by the Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), Mr Prithviraj Chavan, here on Monday. Speaking at the 8th International Stainless Steel Conference, Mr Chavan said, "Good governance is one of the three main pillars of the present Government and for that, sectors that are not yet regulated at the macro-level need to be regulated. There would be regulators for the mining, petroleum and the transport sectors soon." The other two pillars of the present Government, Mr Chavan said, are rural orientation and infrastructure. "Rural infrastructure development projects have already been launched and the project for development of urban infrastructure would be launched on November 14," he said. Among the main infrastructure projects are six-laning of the Golden Quadrilateral connecting the four metros. He added that the development of infrastructure areas such as energy, rail, roads, and port and airport modernisation are the priorities for the present Government. The Minister said that mining policy would look into export of chromium, iron ore and other natural resources. "There are certain labour-related issues in mining sector reforms and also the simplification of procedures for land acquisition. These won't get solved overnight but these are crucial for reforms," he said. Mr Chavan also urged the State governments to assess expeditiously various project proposals in the steel sector to keep pace with the rapidly changing global scene. The Steel Secretary, Dr Mano Ranjan, in his address pointed out that players can acquaint themselves better with the ground situation if procedural bottlenecks are taken care of and a transparent regime is put in place.
