Aurobindo AIDS drug gets nod

Our Bureau

HYDERABAD: Aurobindo Pharma Ltd (APL) has announced that it has received the tentative approval of the United States Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) for its anti-AIDS drug Lamivudine oral solution 10mg/ml.

The USFDA approval qualifies APL under the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) programme, the company said in a press release here on Monday. Aurobindo Pharma already has seven product approvals under the PEPFAR programme. According to the company, Lamivudine oral solution 10mg/ml is the first generic version approval of GlaxoSmithKline's oral solution `Epivir'. Lamivudine, an antiviral drug, is used to treat infections due to hepatitis-B and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).
