Gender Meet on women in Delhi Our Bureau
New Delhi , Nov. 8 THE international conference `Women, Work and Health 2005' will be held for the first time in Asia here during November 27-30. The theme for the conference is `Striving for better work life.' Organised by a committee of NGOs, the conference will deliberate on issues such as occupational safety, health and environment for women in the organised and the unorganised sector. The fourth in a series of triennial international conferences, itwill highlight work-related health problems and constitutional diseases. The first three conferences took place in Barcelona (1995), Rio (1999) and Stockholm (2002). Around 600 overseas participants will attend the conference, while 350 delegates are expected from the country. According to a press release, the financial and technical support has been provided by the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation, The Planning Commission, The Nehru Memorial Museum, Steel Authority of India, several ministries, the ILO and the WHO. Dr Indira Koithara, Chairperson of the conclave, believes the forthcoming conference will strengthen the idea of bringing gender perspective into the mainstream and reinforce the need for greater social recognition for women. She hoped the conclave will highlight the compelling work situation in the Indian subcontinent.
