ISED network to handhold SMEs

Kochi , Nov. 9

THE Kochi-based Institute of Small Enterprises and Development (ISED) has set up a national network called INSLED-India to promote local enterprises.

This network is part of the International Network on SMEs for Local Economic Development, said Dr P.M. Mathew, Director of ISED.

The decision to set up both the international network and the constituent national network was taken by the International Conference on SMEs for Local Economic Development, organised by ISED in January this year. The Kochi declaration on SMEs in Local Economic Development, which forms the backbone for both networks, was passed unanimously at the conference, he said.

A `Friends of ISED' meeting was held today to commemorate the `Global leader in small business promotion' award conferred on the institute by the Institute of International Education (IIE), New York. The award recognises organisations that focus on economic development and the development of new ideas, innovative services and entrepreneurial attitudes for small business.

ISED was invited to represent India in the Global Leadership Seminar on Small Business Development held in Cairo during September, he said. The Cairo seminar, attended by 21 other countries, has charted an agenda of networking and continued dialogue at the international level.

ISED also received the Oshikawa International Award of the Asian Productivity Organisation, Tokyo.
