CII quality summit begins at Bangalore

Our Bureau

Bangalore , Nov. 9

THE three-day 13th Quality Summit to begin on Thursday will lay stress on the new concept of Breakthrough Management.

As the global enterprises are focusing on converging their resources to evolve strategies and norms for reducing costs and providing quality goods and services, redefining excellence in business has assumed greater significance.

The summit organised here by the CII Institute of Quality held a two-day pre-event meet on Tuesday of the Global Excellence Model council, an exclusive club of the custodians of various excellence awards of different countries. It discussed the common issues faced by the award custodians with an immediate emphasis towards the need to redefine excellence, in the light of the changing business environment.

"Emphasis on emerging needs such as more focus on social responsibility, promoting sustainable growth and managing the ecosystem, managing business in culturally different geographies and focus on triple bottom line, not only on the individual organisational performance (People, Planet, and Performance) makes corporates look beyond their focus on shareholders' financial needs", said Mr. S.K. Kakkar, Principal Counsellor & Head, CII Institute of Quality.

The highlight of the meet would be an address by Prof. Shoji Shiba, staunch advocate of Breakthrough Management concept, quality expert and Professor, Sloan School of Management & Professor, University of Tsukuba.

He is responsible for disseminating the practices and methodologies of Breakthrough Management to the industries and governments of many countries. The meet will also have sessions on quality in education.
