Vizag chosen for consumer study project

Our Bureau

Bangalore , Nov. 9

THE Indian Institute of Consumer Studies (IICS), a non-profit organisation, has chosen Vishakapatnam as the second city for its experiment to set up low-cost digital infrastructure at smaller retail outlets. This promises to have a spin-off effect of employment generation and entrepreneurial development opportunities.

IICS, which has already chosen Bangalore to launch its pilot, has now plumped for Vishakapatnam, as it is surrounded by wealthy rural consumers. The retail concept has been developed by Mr Parthasarathy Ray, Chairman and CEO of IICS. It envisages setting up of consumer interaction terminals (CITs) at 100 small retail stores in each city, which would be linked to the central server of IICS.
