California Soft, Macromedia sign distribution pact

Chennai , Nov. 9

CALIFORNIA Software Ltd and the US-based Macromedia Inc have announced a distribution agreement of the latter's Flash products in India, South Asia and the US.

The Chennai-based software company would licence, distribute and integrate Macromedia Flash Player SDK and Macromedia Flash Lite into embedded and handheld devices, said Mr Conor Carrol, Head, Mobile Strategy, Macromedia.

The Flash allows business users, developers and designers to create and deliver memorable experiences on the Internet, he told newspersons.

Under the agreement, Flash Player and Flash Lite can be purchased through California Software to enable embedded system developers and OEMs (original equipment manufacturers) to include Flash in their devices, he said.

Dr J. K. Nair, Chief Operating Officer, California Software, said the company would also provide consultation to Macromedia licenses on Flash. He hoped this agreement would bring business worth a couple of million dollars.

According to Mr Carrol, the proposed acquisition of Macromedia by the American company, Adobe Systems Inc would not affect the agreement with California Software. "We will have a long-term relationship," he said.
