Chennai , Oct. 9

THE Royal Thai Embassy announced the opening of the Visa Facilitation Services' (VFS) Thailand visa application centre here.

The centre will cater to Indian residents who wish to apply for transit visas, tourist visas or non-immigrant visas.

Mr Suphot Yanthukij, Consul General, Royal Thai Consulate-General, said that its Delhi centre received about 400 applications a day, the Mumbai centre 300, and Kolkata 200, so it was a natural move for them to open a centre in Chennai.

The issued visas would be in three categories - one-month, three-month and six-month.

He said that the period between the application and receiving the visa would be three days.

Ms Venku Murthi, Vice-President - South Asia, VFS, said that VFS would be providing various value added services, starting with extended hours for receiving applications (between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. and between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m.).

She said that there was a seating area, a demand draft facility, and a helpline.

The aim is to make the centre a one-stop shop for visas, she said. VFS will also undertake the data entry portion and take care of the software, which would allow the Royal Thai Embassy to concentrate on evaluating the visa applications.
