THE multilateral trade negotiation discussions in Geneva, in which nearly 20 trade ministers took part representing the larger membership of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) to break the logjam in the run-up to Hong Kong Ministerial, ended inconclusively on Tuesday night, following wide divergences in the various areas of negotiations.
According to an official released here by the Commerce Ministry, the Union Commerce & Industry Minister, Mr Kamal Nath, has categorically stated that the July Framework, which had set out the principles and guidelines for the ongoing Doha Round of trade talks in the WTO, is not up for renegotiations.
He also ruled out reopening of any issue as the July Framework adequately addressed the developed issues of concern to the developing countries.
In three interventions at the key meeting of WTO trade ministers, Mr Nath made the point that the forthcoming Hong Kong Ministerial would be judged solely by how far it meets the development objectives of the Doha Round.
