Fighting corruption

It is heartening to know that the Maharashtra Home Minister, Mr R. R. Patil, is keen to curb the rampant corruption in the Government. He has inaugurated a Web site (www. acb.maharashtra.org) to disseminate information to the general public and even encourage them to come forward and expose the guilty.

A few steps need to be taken if the Home Minister is serious about cleaning up the administration and the executive.

These include:

(a) Ensuring swift and severe punishment for those found guilty;

(b) Giving sufficient publicity to the crime to deter others;

(c) Rewarding the whistle-blowers while ensuring their identity is kept secret;

(d) Providing accurate and adequate contact details for people to register their complaints.
