Coimbatore , Nov. 11

AS part of the contract farming mechanism to increase the acreage for the extra long staple (ELS) `Suvin' hybrid cotton as well as the DCH-32 variety, a Farmers Field School (FFS) programme has been launched in Salem and Dharmapuri districts.

The programme is aimed at providing on-farm training to cotton growers on integrated pest management practices including the fertiliser management and pest and insect prevention methods and it is being implemented under the private-public initiative by the Tamil Nadu State Agriculture Department, Tamil Nadu Agriculture University and the Pollachi-based private Appachi Cotton Company.

According to a press release from the Appachi Cotton Company, an interactive meeting on the FFS for cotton farmers organised by the company was held at Pennagaram block in Dharmapuri district on Friday.

The joint initiative has organised 150 FFS covering 3,000 cotton farmers in the district.
