Steady trend in spot rubber

A STEADY trend prevailed in spot rubber on Saturday. The market activities remained on a low key, as there was no change in sentiments to initiate the usual weekend short covering as expected.

The absence of international markets kept the speculators comparatively inactive throughout the session. Most of the traders preferred to maintain a wait and watch policy as the arrivals are expected to improve in the weeks ahead.

Sheet rubber closed unchanged at Rs 65 a kg at Kottayam. The grade was quoted slightly higher at Rs 65.50 (65) a kg at Kochi.

The NMCE rubber futures ended in a positive note quoting the November contract at Rs 65.47 (65.28), December at Rs 64.71 (64.67), January at Rs 64.55 (64.56) and February at Rs 64.84(64.68) per kg for RSS 4. The December contract for the grade closed at Rs 64.72 against Rs 64.47 a kg in MCX.

The volumes in the National Multi Commodity Exchange totalled 718 lots with77 lots in November, 496 lots in December, 120 lots in January and 25 lots in February.

Spot prices a kg were: RSS-4: Rs 65 (65); RSS-5: Rs 62.50 (62.50);

ungraded: RS 60 (60); ISNR 20: Rs 62.75 (62.75) and latex 60 per cent: Rs 42 (42).
