Mangalore , Nov. 12

THE recent joint venture between Tata Steel and Blue Scope Steel of Australia will focus on the areas of pre-engineered buildings and steel-intensive buildings.

In an informal chat with presspersons after laying the foundation stone for the Pilikula Golf Club in Mangalore on Saturday, Mr B. Muthuraman, Managing Director of Tata Steel, said the 50:50 joint venture between the two companies would provide construction solutions in the country.

"In India, we don't have pre-engineered buildings. We don't have steel-intensive buildings. All these things are new to India. This joint venture company is going to introduce them in the country," he said.

Stating that pre-engineered buildings will save both time and cost, he said they would be aesthetically superior. Steel-intensive buildings are more attractive, more aesthetic looking, beautiful and cheaper, he said.

Asked when these construction solutions would be introduced to the market, he said, "It may take around two years for the products to come to the market." The fundamental thing in these products is design. "We have already started a design office in Pune. The manufacturing facility will be in Jamshedpur. And in two years' time these new products will be available in the market," he said.
