Tea Fair demand at Kochi tea sale Our Bureau
Kochi , Nov. 13 A FAIR general demand persisted for almost all varieties of tea at the Kochi tea auction. Of the quantity of 12,20,000 kg on offer in the dust category, best liquoring and good medium CTC's steady to firm, particularly finer grades. Bolder grades other than CTC's tended to ease. Highgrowns orthodox was steady, while good medium orthodox dearer. As per the figures made available with Forbes, Ewart and Figgis, the best CTC varieties commanded prices between Rs 50-65, medium CTC realised Rs 42-48 and below medium were quoted Rs 20-25. Highgrown BOPD fetched prices between Rs 80-104, medium BOPD realised Rs 38-40 and secondaries were quoted Rs 20-23. The leaf sale also witnessed a fair general demand and the quantity on offer was 4,45,000 kg. Highgrown orthodox grades were irregular and tended to ease. Mediums remained steady while CTC's were easier by Re 1 - Rs 2. CIS exporters were selective. Exporters to Iraq lent useful support to mediums and secondaries at last levels. The best Nilgiri varieties commanded prices between Rs 45-65, medium orthodox realised Rs 38-50. The best CTC leaf was quoted Rs 36-42, while medium CTC leaf fetched Rs 31-33. In the dust category, Kodanaad Cl.BOPD fetched the best prices of Rs 104, followed by Pasurparai FD by Rs 95. In the leaf varieties, Chamraj OP realised the best prices of Rs 106.25, followed by Havukal BOPF by Rs 99.05.
