Training meet on medicinal plants in Hyderabad from Nov 28-30

THE Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (CIMAP) Resource Centre here is organising a three-day training programme on `Agribusiness opportunities in medicinal and aromatic plants' at its premises at Boduppal here from November 28-30.
In a press release, the CIMAP Resource Centre scientist-in-charge, Dr B.R. Rajeswara Rao, said with the aim of spreading knowledge on medicinal and aromatic crops, the centre has developed scientifically structured training programme protocol to benefit farmers, entrepreneurs, government officers, non-governmental organisations, researchers and students.
According to Dr Rao, medicinal and aromatic plants and natural products obtained from them have gained global significance and the trade has touched the $10-million mark, which is expected to grow to $ 5-trillion by 2050.
India with a wealth of around 8,000 species of medicinal plants and over 2,500 species of aromatic plants has the potential to become a global leader in the sector. Accordingly, there is an urgent need to empower stakeholders with the latest knowledge, he said.
