New Delhi , Nov. 14

IN an effort to further establish a long-lasting relationship with the Indian defence forces and industry, the US company Lockheed Martin opened its new corporate office here on Monday.

"The growing Indo-US strategic partnership provides great opportunity for enhanced business ties between India and the US," said the Managing Director, Lockheed Martin India, Mr Royce Caplinger.

The company is looking to sell the F-16 fighters that it manufacturers to the Indian Air Force. Addressing the ceremony to mark the opening of the new office, the former US Defence Secretary, Mr William S. Cohen, said that India and the US had made tremendous strides in a short period of time.

Asked on the possible sale of F-16 jets, Mr Cohen said that the sale, if it came about, would have the complete support of the Federal system. Further, the former Defence Secretary said that the goal was also to have "as much co-production as possible."
