New India portal

The Union Information-Technology (IT) Ministry deserves compliments for the new national portal www.india.gov.in designed and introduced by National Informatics Centre (NIC). Though the Web site has extensive and exhaustive information on India, there is room for a lot more improvement.

All official Web sites of various departments, ministries and undertakings of the Union and State-governments run and maintained by NIC should provide an acknowledgement number to each of messages pasted. Such an acknowledgement number is especially necessary if a person wishes to exercise his/her right under the newly-introduced `Right-To-Information-Act-2005'.

The new portal should also have a guest-book where people may give their views/suggestions on various aspects of the country.
