Alliances & Joint Ventures KPIT Cummins inks pact with Business Objects Our Bureau
Pune , Nov. 15 KPIT Cummins Infosystems Ltd on Tuesday announced it has entered into a five-year customer support contract with the Paris-based business intelligence solutions company Business Objects (BO). The company will set up a team of 80 people at its BPO subsidiary, KPIT Cummins Global Business Solutions, to service the contract and expand the team to 150 by end 2006, Mr Kishor Patil, CEO & Managing Director, said. BO is a global business intelligence software company with customers in 30 countries and revenues of over $1 billion last year. As part of its contract, KPIT Cummins will provide tech support, including customer service to BO's customers. "Our initial strategy is to re-manage our growth by moving work to the Pune set-up," Mr Bill Bentaieb, Worldwide Director Customer Support, Shared Services, said. "While the initial agreement is for KPIT Cummins to provide level 1 and 2 support, further growth will mean shifting work involving more in-depth skills here," Mr Bentaieb said. "Business intelligence has been a focused area for the company and currently accounts for over ten per cent of the revenues. With increasing demand in this space, we intend to step up our focus on it," Mr Patil said. Meanwhile, the company has given notice to the stock exchange about two possible acquisitions, one in the US and the other in Europe, next week, Mr Patil told newspersons, replying to specific queries on rumours about imminent acquisitions in the domestic market. He, however, declined to give further details about the upcoming transactions. The KPIT Cumminsstock has been moving up (closed at Rs 299.40 on the BSE on November 14) on the back of rumours that it is seeking to expand its software business through a clutch of acquisitions in the domestic and overseas markets.
