Amtex plans plug-n-play offices near Chennai

Raja Simhan T.E.

Chennai , Nov. 16

THE US-based Amtex Systems has found a novel way to attract international clients planning an offshore development centre (ODC) in India.

It helps clients set up a centre in two weeks and also provides an exit strategy to leave the facility in 24 hours, according to Mr Sunny Pokala, President, Amtex.

"We are taking advantage of the offshoring boom, and helping clients to quickly set up their centres in India. They can exit whenever they want to without any hassle," he said.

The company is setting up a disaster recovery and management facility outside Chennai for global companies, at a cost of Rs 100 crore. With this, Amtex is venturing into IT infrastructure by providing end-to-end facility management services, he said.

The proposed facility coming up on the Old Mahabalipuram Road (will not only provide space for clients to set up their centre, but also manpower, hardware, software, servers and firewalls. Companies need to just plug and play. The facility will also serve as a disaster recovery site for clients planning to host their data centres and have a back-up of huge valuable data, thereby providing complete end-to-end services, he said.

The company has begun working on such a deal with some clients, who can exit the centre within 24 hours without losing anything. They hedge the risk with Amtex, he said.

Founded in 1997 by Mr Pokala Amtex is one of the top four privately held IT consulting companies in New York. Its clients include New York Stock Exchange, JP Morgan, New York School Construction Authority, ADP, Merrill Lynch, Goldman Sachs, IBM, Hewlett Packard and Pfizer.

The $50-million company employs more than 600 IT professionals globally and has 12 offices across six countries, he said.
