Kolkata , Nov. 16

LG Electronics India Pvt Ltd (LGEIL) has targeted sales of 15,000 notebook computer units in 2006, according to Mr Moon B. Shin, Deputy Managing Director of LGEIL.

At a press conference held here on Wednesday to announce the launch of a range of premium products — including a notebook computer, car style GSM mobile handset and a next-generation karaoke system — Mr Moon said LGEIL has on offer five notebook computer models priced between Rs 75,000 and Rs 1.25 lakh. Also on offer are a dozen colour handset models. A premium range of GSM phones, refrigerators and washing machines would also be launched.

The company sells 40,000-50,000 handsets every month, he said. By next year, handset sales would account for around 10 per cent of LGEIL's turnover. During the year ending December 31, LGEIL hopes to generate Rs 7,500-8,500 crore turnover. In 2004, the company recorded a turnover of Rs 6,500 crore.

Mr Moon said the Nioda0 manufacturing facility would cater mainly to the domestic market while its new facility at Ranjangaon in Pune would cater to export markets.
