IN the face of lack of convergence in certain areas of trade negotiations under the Doha Round, India on Wednesday pleaded with all members of the World Trade Organisation to make the forthcoming ministerial at Hong Kong a success and to work harder to bring the negotiations to a successful end.

In a statement issued here, the Union Commerce & Industry Minister, Mr Kamal Nath, said the engagement by the members of the WTO in recent weeks has revealed lack of convergence in certain areas of the negotiations. "Therefore all of us have to work hard to make Hong Kong a success and even work harder to bring Doha Round to a successful conclusion," he said.

Stating that this objective demands intensive negotiations and the understanding of each other's position, Mr Kamal Nath said that blaming one another only "vitiates the atmosphere and is not conducive to constructive engagement."
