Events Maran opens India Pavilion at Information Society summit Our Bureau
New Delhi , Nov. 17 THE Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Mr Dayanidhi Maran, inaugurated the India Pavilion at the second phase of World Summit on Information Society (WSIS) at Tunis, which focuses on the theme "ICT 4 Development and Solidarity". "The Pavilion showcases the efforts of the Indian companies such as Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) and Telecommunications Consultants India Ltd (TCIL) from Government sector, as well as projects by Infosys, TCS, HCL, Midas, Tejas, ITC and NIIT from private sector. Some of these companies have displayed their projects in real time including tele-medicine, e-governance applications, and fibre-to-home technology," an official release said here. In order to address health sector and bring health-related services to the doorsteps of the citizens, C-DAC is showcasing tele-medicine application in real time by demonstrating medical consultation between Regional Cancer Centre at Thiruvananthapuram and a remote village. Fibre-to-home technology project by TCIL demonstrates broadband services, and broadband connectivity to homes, schools and small businesses, it said adding that ITC is exhibiting its e-choupal project that covers over 15,000 villages in India and provides millions of farmers with critical information about farming.
