Medical and Health Dept to be split into 3 directorates

Our Bureau

Hyderabad , Nov. 17

THE Andhra Pradesh Government has announced a major revamp of the health administration in the State.

The Medical and Health Department would be split into three directorates to take care of primary health, hospitals administration and medical education.

The Minister for Finance and Health, Mr K. Rosaiah, told presspersons here that the division would help in efficient handling of issues related to health and medical sectors.

The Government also decided to revoke the ban on private practice of Government doctors. As a result, all the Government doctors who joined primary health centres after 1987 could start private practice. The decision, however, did not apply to those who work in teaching hospitals, he said.

The Government, however, had not taken any decision with regard to allowing doctors working in the district headquarters and area hospitals to open private clinics.
