Hyderabad , Nov. 17 AN additional investment of Rs 2 crore will be made in the Military Hospital in Secunderabad, according to the Director-General, Armed Forces Medical Services, Vice-Admiral V.K. Singh. On a visit to the city, he told newspersons, "The priority is to ensure better treatment and bring defence hospitals on a par with the best hospitals in the country. Our hospitals will be better equipped to handle disaster and extend swift support to the civilian society too." On career prospects in the Armed Forces Medical Services, he said "The recommendations of the A.V. Singh Committee are being implemented, giving maximum benefits and making a career in defence more attractive." HIV/AIDS is among the most discussed problems around the world and the armed forces are fully geared to tackle the concern by giving adequate attention towards education and awareness. "In comparison to the civilian HIV infected population of .9 per cent, the armed forces' infection rate is only .025 per cent. We will extend all possible support and treatment will not be denied to anyone who is found to have HIV in the armed forces," he said. The response to the Ex-Servicemen Contribution Health Scheme had been excellent, he said. The scheme enabled members to get the best medical facility not only in defence hospitals but also in corporate hospitals in cases where the military hospitals were not equipped to handle the treatment.
