Sahara Computers plans Rs 400-cr investment

SAHARA Computers and Electronics and Ltd (SCEL) announced an investment of Rs 400 crore in the domestic market in the next two years.

Out of the Rs 400 crore, the company would invest Rs 150 crore in increasing its presence in the multi-brand outlets, which comprise 6,000 local and regional distributors and resellers across the country that the company has tied up with.

Another Rs 150 crore investment would go into making its product available in retail stores such as Big Bazaar and Vishal Mega Mart.

"This initiative is being taken by the company to bridge the digital divide in the country," said Mr George Van Der Merwe, Chief Operating Officer, SCEL.

Explaining this he said, people can have a look and feel of IT products even as they do their Sunday shopping.

The last chunk of the Rs 400-crore pie of Rs 100 crore would be spent in setting up "retail experience zone stores" in 700 B, C and D category towns in the country. These would be multi brand stores.
