New Delhi , Nov. 19 THE Left parties met the Minister for Commerce and Industry, Mr Kamal Nath, on Saturday and discussed matters relating to the Hong Kong Ministerial meet next month of the World Trade Organisation (WTO). The Left parties said India's role should be first arrived at by keeping in mind the necessity of the agricultural sector. The purpose is to have a patch-up between the Left view and the Government view on what stand India should take at the Hong Kong meeting. According to sources, though agricultural reforms were slow, the Left leaders were assured that India would not push the WTO accord unless its farmers were protected through special products and special safeguard mechanism. Meanwhile, the process of consultation wasinitiated a month ago and meetings of State Agriculture Secretaries, farmers association, Standing Committee and Parliamentary Committee, agricultural universities and farm scientists have almost been completed.
