SBI staff hold demonstration at Thrissur

Our Bureau

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Employees of the State Bank of India (SBI) held a demonstration in Thrissur to register protest against implementation of core banking that is threatening to pit the employees against customers.

Mr K. Ravindran, Assistant General Secretary, State Bank Staff Union (SBSU), said the City Mayor, Ms R. Bindu inaugurated the proceedings. Core banking represented one of the devious means through which globalisation was sought to be propagated, she said. The bank employees should take upon themselves the task of rustling up strong public opinion in this regard.

The huge money being expended on core banking must be subjected to social audit, the Mayor added. Among those who spoke on the occasion were Mr K. Raja Kurup, President, SBSU (KC); Dr T. K. Jayaprakash, Mr N.E. Sidhan and Mr P.N.K. Nair.
