UPA, Left to meet today

THE Left parties propose to discuss socio-economic issues at the UPA-Left Coordination panel meeting, which is expected to take place on Monday.

The meeting assumes significance as the winter session of Parliament is scheduled to begin from Wednesday.

Besides, the Government's stand on the Iran vote, a probe into oil deals during the NDA regime and Women's Reservation Bill, the Left parties are also likely to raise the issue of price rise, crisis in the agricultural sector, forest dwellers' bill, dilution of labour laws and FDI in retail.

Senior Left leaders, the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, the UPA Chairperson, Ms Sonia Gandhi, and senior ministers and officials are likely to attend the meeting.

The Left is also likely to take up the issue of the Government's move to disinvest its 15 per cent stake in the Shipping Corporation of India (SCI) and disinvestment of profit-making non-Navaratnas.
