MR Virbhadra Singh, Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, said on Monday that in the next four months, his Government would be awarding small, medium and large-sized hydro electric projects with a total capacity of around 7,000 MW to promote power development.
"The State has a total potential of 21,000 MW, of which projects totalling 6,600 MW are already operational, while projects totalling 7,600 MW are being executed. The remaining will be awarded in the next four months," Mr Singh said at the foundation stone laying event of the 192-MW Allain Duhangan hydro power project near here.
The projects in the State had been categorised under three segments below 5 MW, between 5 MW and 100 MW, and above 100 MW, he said. While the projects above 100 MW would be allotted by the State through the international bidding process, the small and medium projects would be awarded through the Memorandum of Understanding route.
Mr Singh said that several private players had shown interest in setting up power projects in the State, including the LNJ Bhilwara group, which is setting up the Allain Duhangan project. The State Government has also reserved the option of taking equity in the projects and will ensure that investors give 70 per cent of the jobs to people of the State.
