Lower volume on offer at Coonoor tea sale

P.S. Sundar

Coonoor , Nov. 22

WITH a lower volume and activated demand, players in the trade expect the market for Coonoor teas at the auctions on Thursday and Friday to continue to look up.

This week only 10.76 lakh kg have been catalogued against 13.21 lakh kg, which were auctioned last week. This is the lowest volume of the last three weeks.

"Last week saw a higher volume because of the arrivals after the Diwali holidays. Still, the prices went up due to increased demand in the context of the North Eastern tea harvests reaching the end-season. We expect this impact to prevail this week as well," an auctioneer told Business Line.

Last week, the Tea Board allowed manual sale of leaf grades. Prices rose Rs 2 to 3 a kg over the previous week.

This week, of the 10.76 lakh kg on offer, as much as 7.56 lakh kg belong to the leaf grades.
